Nobody settles for the minimum in this community. Why would fundraising for pediatric cancer research be any different?
Last year, a special group of more than 30 Decathletes joined the '10K Club'. Each competitor raised more than $10,000 to honor their participation in the event. These overachievers collectively raised more than $500,000 and set a new standard for what being a Decathlete is all about.
Here are a few of their tips on how to join the 10K Club:
Don't Underestimate Yourself
Peers, colleagues, friends and family are far more generous than you assume and they want to see you succeed.
Share your goals and ask for their support!
Early and Often
Get a jump on your fundraising right away by announcing that you are in the competition today. On average, it takes 6 emails for a donor to make a gift. A good reminder never hurt anyone…
Mention Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
It's the world's oldest and largest private cancer institution. The history and size of the institution gives people confidence that their donation will go where it will have the most impact.
Top of the house
Firms rally behind their athletes in The Decathlon and your senior executives are no different. The Decathlon family will be happy to take a meeting or contact them on your behalf as well. Just shoot a note to email@example.com.
Cast a wide net
The whole financial services community rallies around this event and feeds off the positive press and social value generated by giving back, but it doesn't stop there. Contact your entire network and you'll be amazed at how many people will be inspired by your commitment.
Use the tools at your disposal
All competitors are provided with a fundraising profile including an email template to send to your clients, colleagues, friends and family.
Ask The Decathlon staff
The Decathlon staff will help you with emails and social media posts, creative goal setting, best practice techniques, and support via phone and email to make sure you hit your goals.
A successful fundraising campaign comes down to one thing – your effort. Follow up with donors, share your performance goals, and make sure they understand how this amazing event is inspiring you to stretch yourself out of your comfort zone.
Extend yourself and join the 10K Club. It's what people like you do. We'll see you on stage for the 10K Club champagne toast…
